Unique Book Depot Customers

December 28, 2018

Book Depot has been in the wholesale bargain book business since 1988, and we now ship to over 80 countries worldwide! While we certainly work with many traditional bookstores, over the years and as we continue to grow our customer base, we’ve seen many unique businesses take advantage of our low-cost books. Continue reading to find out some of the most distinctive businesses we work with!

Big Bad Wolf Books

Big Bad Wolf Books runs book fairs like no other company we know. Based in Southeast Asia, they have been in business for almost ten years and put on some of the largest book fairs in the world. The fairs are often ten days long, run 24 hours a day, and can see hundreds of thousands of customers come through the doors. The excitement at these events could be compared to Boxing Day in Canada or Black Friday in the United States, multiplied by five! We’ve seen numerous videos where product is being brought out to re-stock and hundreds of people are gathered around, reaching frantically to buy any book that is sent in their general direction. Big Bad Wolf Books does a great job of getting the right type of books for its customers, and the business is continuing to grow throughout the world.

Iron Dog Books

Cliff and Hilary Atleo are the owners and operators of Iron Dog Books, located in the metro Vancouver area in British Columbia, Canada, and what makes their shop so unique is that it is on wheels! I had the pleasure of meeting Hilary while she was in the planning stages of her business in 2017, and it’s been amazing to see her vision come to life. Not only is she able to bring a bookstore to communities that might not normally have access to one, she also gives back to her community:

“Centered on the core belief that books should be affordable and accessible, Iron Dog Books sells new and used fiction, nonfiction, children’s and young adult books from a 2006 Freightliner step van that has been converted into a storefront on wheels. The shop also gratefully accepts donations of secondhand books, which allow Iron Dog Books to donate 20% of the retail value to rural and remote indigenous schools in Nuu Chah Nulth territory on the west side of Vancouver Island.”

No trip to a museum is complete without a visit to the gift shop, and we work with many to provide quality books for their visitors.

Florence Griswold Museum

This art museum is the home of American Impressionism and is located in Old Lyme, Connecticut. Situated along the picturesque Lieutenant River, the museum is housed in the home of Florence Griswold, who was the center of the Old Lyme Art Colony. The museum is noted for its collection of American Impressionist paintings. From the impressive Georgian architecture of the home, to the rolling landscape of the 13-acre site, the Florence Griswold Museum is a truly special place!

International Spy Museum

The International Spy Museum is a nonprofit museum that explores the craft, practice, history, and contemporary role of espionage. The International Spy Museum is the only public museum in the United States solely dedicated to espionage and the only one in the world to provide a global perspective on an all-but-invisible profession that has shaped history and continues to have a significant impact on world events.

The mission of the International Spy Museum is to educate the public about espionage and intelligence in an engaging way and to provide a context that fosters understanding of their important role in and impact on current and historic events. The Museum focuses on human intelligence and reveals the role spies have played in world events throughout history. It is committed to the apolitical presentation of the history of espionage in order to provide visitors with impartial, accurate information.

Peterborough VegFest

Whether you need books 365 days a year, or just for a special event, Book Depot is able to be flexible to meet the needs of our varied customer base. For example, VegFests are community festivals celebrating plant-based living and happen all over the world. We had the opportunity to provide books to the Peterborough Vegfest, located in central Ontario, Canada, to ensure they were stocked with a wide range of cookbooks and food-related books for festival visitors. The Peterborough VegFest was an opportunity for people in the region and beyond to access and enjoy delicious plant-based food from a variety of farmers and businesses, and to learn about the health, economic, and environmental benefits of a plant-based diet. It was the perfect place for our food-related books!
